Good Morning:

I am a mother of 13 year old in Pre-Algebra and my memory is not working.

My questions is, What is the Order of Operations?

problem: (/ = divided by right?)

49 / 7 + (9-4) x 6 =

(9-4=5)

49 / 7 = 7 + 5 = 12

12 x 6 = 72

Is that correct? please advise.

Thanks.

(/ = divided by right?) : yes; and * (not x) now used for multiplication
49 / 7 + (9-4) * 6 =

You're quite close, Mom; but 5 should be multiplied by 6 before the addition:

49 / 7 + 5 * 6 = 7 + 30 = 37

Your answer would be correct if expression had another set of brackets, like:
[49 / 7 + (9-4)] * 6 =
