Well that's where I get lost... do I start with $30,000= $21,000 x 6%? Is that how I start?

How much the clark must earn in commisson to have a total salary of 30000? [say that figure is M]

She gets 6% commisson - given.

So 6% of what number = M

So do you do 30000/6%? -- No

Follow the steps indicated in my earlier post.

Re: Word Problem/ Percents

The problem is multple choice. Can i plug in one of the answer choices and multiply that by 6% and see what gives me 30000? Would that work?

I'll do a similar problem for you:

A sale clerk's base salary is $35,000. The clerk earns a 5% commission on total sales. How much must the clerk sale to earn $50,000?

The clerk needs to earn in commission = 50000 - 35000 = 15000

The clerk earns a 5% commission on total sales

5% of what is 15000

0.05 * x = 15000

x = 15000/0.05 = 300,000

check

The clerk must sale 300,000 worth of stuff

then the commission = 300,000 * 0.05 = 15,000

The total salary of the clerk = 35000 (base) + 15000 (commission) = 50,000 (checks)
