In the triangular cross- section of a roof, the second angle is twice as large as the first. The third angle is 20 degrees greater than the first angle. What is the measure of each angle?

Hi TamaraHill,

You know, of course, the three angles of a triangle add to 180 degrees.

Let x = 1st angle.

Let 2x = 2nd angle.

Let x + 20 = 3rd angle.

\(\displaystyle x+2x+x+20=180\)

Let x + 20 = 3rd angle.

[4x+20=180]x+2x+x+20=180[4x=160]

x=40
1st=40,2nd=80,3rd=60
