I am having a really hard time helping my daughter with her math homework. I don't even know where to start! If someone can help me please.this is the problem:
In 1996, there were about 2,342,000 marriages in the United States. The table below shows the approximate number of marriages each month.

Use a calculator to find the percent of the total number of marriages that occurred each month. Round the answers to the nearest whole percent.

Month Approx. # of marriages Appros. % of total marria
Jan 100,000

===============

Since you only gave the data for January, this is how you do it for that month and all the others.

Take the monthly value and divide it by the total vlaue for the year. So, on your calculator, compute:

100000/2342000 = .04270

Multiply this number by 100 to change it to a percent:

.04270 * 100 = 4.270 %

Since the fractional part (.270) is less than .5, rounding to the nearest whole percent will give 4%.

Hope that helps.
