I am not doing well with this, and could really use some help! I need to solve the following:

. . .4 - 6(x + 2) = 10

Thank you!

Can you solve regular linear equations, with no parentheses? Or do you need lessons on both the simplifying and the solving? Or are you just not sure of your steps so far? :?:

Please be specific. Thank you! :D

4 - 6(x + 2) = 10

distribute the -6 ...

4 - 6x - 12 = 10

combine like terms ...

-6x - 8 = 10

add 8 to both sides ...

-6x = 18

divide both sides by -6 ...

x = -3

now, the most important part ... check the solution in the original equation

4 - 6(-3 + 2) = 10

4 - 6(-1) = 10

4 + 6 = 10

checks good.
