I recently got this study guide for an upcoming test and I need help with the answers, I will try and draw some of the figures on paint and post them. Here:

alg1_numline1.gif

Is the answer:

a) x < -3
b) x > -3
c) x ≥ -3

alg1_numline2.gif

a) x ≤ -3
b) x > -3
c) x < -3

alg1_numline4.gif

a) x ≥ -3
b) x ≤ -3
c) x > -3

alg1_numline6.gif

1) x ≤ -1
2) x > -1
3) x = -1

alg1_numline7.gif

a) x /= 0 (not equal to 0)
b) x = 0
c)x < 0

alg1_numline8.gif

a) x = 0
b) x /= 0 (not equal to 0)
c) x = all real numbers

Thank you :D

In general, open (empty) dots indicate an endpoint that is not included in the solution; closed (filled) dots indicate one that is. Values to the right are "greater than" (being larger) and values to the left are "less than".

See where that takes you.

Eliz.

P.S. The above assumes that you have seen a number line and inequality symbols before. If you haven't, please reply to that effect, and we'll see if we can find some online lessons for you.
