Solving Equations involving Radicals

I've been stuck on this problem and posting to see if someone would be so kind and point me in the right direction with it. I must solve the equation involving radicals.

x^2 + 4x + 4 = 9

what I did first was subtract the 4 from each side

x^2 +4x =5

then I'm lost not sure how to combine the rest.
 
There are NO radicals in that equation!

Subtract 9 instead of 4:
x^2 + 4x - 5 = 0
Now solve by factoring.
If you can't, you need classroom help...
