What number can you deduct 13 from and be left with 45?
or:
if I paid you back $13 on a loan I owe you, and I still owe you $45,
how much was the loan ?

Did you get that?

Step 1. you want to isolate the variable and get -13 on the other side.
Step 2. what you do to one to one side, you must do to the other. So, if
you want to get Y by itself, you must take -13 and add +13.
Step 3.when you add +13 to 45, you should get 58. So, Y=58
