I've been currently working on this problem my professor gave us to work on. I've been struggling in this class all semester and how he explains how to set it up confuses.

I would like to know how to set up this question:

The San Paulo community swimming pool can be filled in 12 hr if water enters through a pipe alone or in 30 hr if water enters through a hose alone. If water is entering through both the pipe and the hose, how long will it take to fill the pool?

my professor has this way of setting problems up like (1/t+2 + 1/t= 1/4) for an example question. he said to use the same format but its too complicated for me. so if some one could show me a simpler format to set these problems up would help me a lot. thank you,

With pipe alone, what fraction will be filled in 1 hr.? = 1/12

With hose alone, what fraction will be filled in 1 hr.? = ??

With two together (hose+pipe), what fraction will be filled in 1 hr.? = ??
