I got down this far not sure if it is correct or I did it wrong/ Please show steps.

. . .x^2 - 3x -3 - 5 = 0
. . .x^2 -3x - 8 = 0
. . .a = 1, b = -3, c = -8
. . .x = {-(-3) +/- SQRT [(-3)^2 - 4(1)(-8)]} / [2(1)]
. . .x = {3 +/- SQRT [9 + 32]} / 2
. . .x= {3 +/- SQRT [41]} / 2
Since there is now sqrt of 41 is this the answer?
