I have a system to solve:

2x + y -3z = -14
x -3y + 4z = 22
3x + 2y +z = 0

I worked with a friend and he came up with x=0, y= -2, z=4 but I can't figure out how he did it and if it is even correct.
Is he using the distributive property?

Yes, he is correct. Try using elimination to get rid of the variables. Substitution would also work, but I think elimination would be easier.

To see if he is correct, plug the solution in for the variables and see if you get the right side. You do.

Thanks. It still doesn't make any sense to me ><.
We are about to go into factoring, for some reason that makes a lot more sense.
