solve the following equation and show alll work.

3/11x= -15

Here is what your typing means:

\(\displaystyle \frac{3}{11} x = - 15\)

If x is supposed to be in the denominator of a fraction, then you need to type grouping symbols around the denominator.

Typing 3/(11x) = -15

means \(\displaystyle \frac{3}{11x} = -15\)

I will guess that you typed what you meant. Here is an example exercise of that sort for you to look at.

EG: Solve the equation for x

-3/4 x = 66

Multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal of the coefficient on x (Is "coefficient" too fancy of a word for you? Let us know. In my example, the coefficient on x is the number -3/4.)

(-4/3)(-3/4) x = (-4/3)(66)

x = -88

Let's check this candidate solution by substituting it into the original equation to see if we end up with a true statement.

-3/4 x = 66

(-3/4)(-88) = 66

66 = 66

We ended up with a true statement, so our solution is confirmed. The answer is x = -88.

I hope that my example helps you. If not, please post specific questions about any parts you do not understand, so that somebody here may tutor you. Cheers :cool:

Here is what I think

(3/11)x= -15. Then you divide both side of the equation by 3/11.

x= -15/(3/11) On the left side you have x, and on the right side, you'll have -15/(3/11).
x= -15 *11/3 Since dividing by a fraction, you have to multiply by the reciprocal.
x= -55 Divide -15/3 = -5, then multiply with 11, you have -55.
