Hey everyone! Thanks again for all your assistance so far!

Here is the current problem:

x/(x+5) + x/x+3 = -4/(x+5)

Here is how far I've made it:

I'm not sure if thats correct so far, or where to go next to solve it.

Thanks.

Why did you decide to use "3", rather that "x+3"? I'm guessing it's just a side effect of very sloppy handwriting.

Seriously, there is merit in neatness.

My sincere apologies! :(

The picture has the correct problem, I typed out the equation wrong at the beginning. Its not x/x+3, but x/3. Everything else is typed how it should be though.

I can't believe I did that!

Jeff showed you steps of the solution to the problem - albeit "wrong" problem ..... however the steps are still valid.

So now you show us what you can do to the "correct" - following the steps shown by Jeff.

3x/3(x+5) + x^2+5x/(x+5) + -12/3(x +5) = 0 ---->

x^2 + 8x + -12 = 0
_______________ ---->
3(x + 5)

(x + 6)(x + 2)
_____________ ---->
3(x + 5)

Hmm, I'm confused.
