Solve for x in equation with two variables

How do I solve for x from the following equation: y = 2x?
If I divide both sides of the equation by x, I get y/x = 2.

What should the next step be to isolate x?

in the equation you wouldn't divide by x you would divide by 2 so the correct answer should be x=y/2

i agree. but remember once you find x be sure to plug it back into the original equation to see if both sides equal. and if they do. your x is correct.
