Does it help to observe that you've a Kite and an Isosceles Triangle?
 
I would think that the definition of "perimeter" would be sufficient. The perimeter of a rectangle with sides x,x,x-2 and x-2 is x+ x+ (x- 2)+ (x- 2) and the perimeter of a triangle with sides x, x,and x+3 is x+ x+ x+3. Set those equal and solve for x.
