The original problem said "During a science experiment, Jean created a 25% alcohol solution by mixing 7 fluid ounces of a 52% alcohol solution with a certain amount of a 4% alcohol solution". That means you are adding liquid to the 7 oz of alchohol.

Thanks, HallsofIvy Now I get it. Also, there is now a new problem that is actually different than mixture problems however I don't understand how to do it. Can anyone help and explain?

a+b/4 - d = e Solve for B

4n+x/3y = 6 Solve for y.

Thanks, Help is greatly appreciated.

a+b/4 - d = e Solve for B ............ Where is B in your given equation?

4n+x/3y = 6 Solve for y.

Assuming you mean (a+b)/4- d= e and you want to solve for b, start by adding d to both sides of the equation. That gives (a+b)/4= d+ e. Now multiply both sides by 4. Can you finish from there?

The idea is that whatever is done that prevents "b" from being alone has to be "undone". For example, seeing the "d" subtracted on the left indicates that we need to do the opposite: add d. And, of course, we need to do the same thing to both sides.

4n+x/3y = 6 Solve for y.
Assuming you mean (4n+x)/(3y) = 6, seeing that "3y" in the denominator, the first thing I would do is multiply both sides by 3y to get 4n+ x= 18y. Do you see how to finish that?

Thanks, Help is greatly appreciated.
