Here's how you check the solution to an equation. Substitute the value you got for the variable into the original equation. See if the equation is true. If it is, your solution is correct. Remember that if you get more than one solution, you need to check EACH of them.
Example:
2x2 + 3x = 2
One of the solutions you found was 2. Substitute 2 for the variable each place it appears in your equation:
2(2)2 + 3(2) = 2
Do the arithmetic to see if that statement is true:
2(4) + 3(2) = 2
8 + 6 = 2
14 = 2
Now, THAT is not a true statement, which tells us that "2" is NOT a solution for the equation. (Hint: you may want to carefully look at your work to see if you have made a sign error.) So...you need to try again.
