I have this problem in Algebra that I need some help on, so if anyone can help me that would be great.

. . .- 4t+1 divide by 3=t+5divide by 6 + t-3 divide by 6

(4t + 1) / 3 = (t + 5) / 6 + (t - 3) / 6

Multiply both sides of the equation by the least common denominator of the fractions, which is 6:

6*(4t + 1)/3 = 6*(t + 5)/6 + 6*(t - 3)/6

Each denominator divides into the 6 we multiplied by:

2(4t + 1) = 1(t + 5) + 1(t - 3)

Ok....now you take it from here.

I still can't quite get the answer. I don't know what I am doing wrong but so far what I get is:

. . .8t + 2 = t + 5 + t - 3

. . .8t + 2 = 2t + 2

After that, I got:

. . .6t = 0

. . .t = -6

...which didn't turn out correct when I checked with the original equation. Please point out what I am doing wrong. Thank you!

I got 6t=0

Good.

... or t=-6

How did you get that? Multiplication. Zero. There is a reason why one studies properties. What is special about zero (0) and multiplication?
