I have these problems and I am unsure how to solve them.

(r,3), (5,9), m=2

I am looking for the value of r so the line that passes through each pair of points has the given slope.

Please help and let me know the proper way to solve so that I can figure out the other 20 problems I have. Thanks

You must have \(\displaystyle \frac{9-3}{5-r}=2\), by definition of slope.

Thank you I do understand the setup, I am just unsure how to solve for R. How do I isolate the variable?

You can start by simplifying the numerator, right?

Next, when the variable appears in the denominator of a fraction, then you need to multiply both sides of the equation by the denominator, in order to clear the fraction.

Do you know how to multiply both sides by the denominator?
