A stadium has two different types of seats, lower section and upper section
-The lower section has 12 more rows than the upper section
-each row in the lower section has 40 seats
-each row in the upper section 70 seats
-the stadium has a capacity of 6750 seats

By writing and solving simultaneous equations, determine how many rows of seats there are in total in the stadium
Hint:
Let x be the number of rows in the lower section
Let y be the number of rows in the upper section

Hint:
Let x be the number of rows in the lower section
Let y be the number of rows in the upper section
That's a good hint!

The lower section has 12 more rows than the upper section
What is that in terms of x and y?

each row in the lower section has 40 seats
So how many seats are there in the lower section? Not a number, a multiple of "x".

each row in the upper section 70 seats
So how many seat are there in the upper section? Not a number, a multiple of "y".

the stadium has a capacity of 6750 seatsl
Using the information above, what is the total number of seats in the stadium, as a function of x and y? Set that equal to 6750. Do you see how to use the very first equation to write that as a function of x only? Can you solve that equation for x?

A good start might be in applying the hints:

If "x" is the number of rows in the lower section, "y" is the number of rows in the upper section, and the lower section has twelve more rows than does the upper section, then what equation can you create, in terms of x and y, for relating the number of rows in the upper and lower sections?

If "x" is the number of rows in the lower section and each row in the lower section has forty seats, then what expression, in terms of x, stands for the number of seats in the lower section?

And so forth.

Please be complete. Thank you! ;)
