Does your problem look like:

\(\displaystyle \frac{10}{2x} + \frac{4}{x-5} \ = \ 4\)

\(\displaystyle \frac{5}{x} + \frac{4}{x-5} \ = \ 4\)

The LCD is x(x-5). We multiply everything by LCD and get

\(\displaystyle \frac{5}{x}\cdot x \cdot (x-5) + \frac{4}{x-5}\cdot x \cdot (x-5) \ = \ 4\cdot x \cdot (x-5)\)

\(\displaystyle {5} \cdot (x-5) + {4}\cdot x \ = \ 4x^2 - 20\)

Now ask your nephew to simplify this and show us what he got - we will work further after that.
