Simplifying complex fractions

I know how to do the problem in general, but I need help with the x with the negative exponent of 1. I don't know how to change that. I marked it in red.

If you can't read that, it is 1/x - x/ x^1 + 1 divided by 3/x
 
Negative exponents just mean to move the base to the other side of the fraction line. So "x<sup>-2</sup>" means "1/x<sup>2</sup>", and "1/(3y<sup>-1</sup>)" means "y<sup>1</sup>/3 = y/3".
