Here is what I have done...

I did...

cos x 1
----- + -----
sin x cot x


cos x sin x
----- + -----
sin x cos x

This is as far as I have gotten, I would imagine I need to establish a common denominator, but it is confusing me. My book says the answer is something like...

Yes, your common denominator is sin x cos x. Multiply the first fraction by (cos x)/(cos x) and the second one by (sin x)/(sin x) and then you'll probably see the rest of this.]
