Simplify the expression: 5^-6x^-1y^4/5^-3x^-4y^8

Re: Simplify the expression, All exponents should be positive

I hope I interpret this right.

\(\displaystyle \frac{5^{-6}\cdot x^{-1}\cdot y^{4}}{5^{-3}\cdot x^{-4}\cdot y^{8}}\)

If so, use the laws of exponents. When you divide exponents, subtract them. When you multiply, add them.

So, for a shove in the right direction, \(\displaystyle \frac{5^{-6}}{5^{-3}}=5^{-6-(-3)}=5^{-3}\)

Make sure the bases are the same when you do this.

Do the same with the x's and the y's.
