I think this is correct but wanted to get someone else's advice before turning it in for credit.

((1 - 2)^3 + (-3)^2) / ((2 + 10 / 2) - 5)
= (-1 + 9) / (7 – 5)
= 8 / 2
= 4

Thanks

Re: Simplify as much as possible

Hello, Andrea!

If that 10/2 is the fraction, you are correct.

.
\(\displaystyle \L\frac{(1\,-\,2)^3 + (-3)^2}{\left(2\,+\,\frac{10}{2}\right)\,-\,5} \;= \;\frac{-1\,+\,9}{7\, -\,5} \;=\;\frac{8}{2}\;=\;4\)

However, if you copied incorrectly and it is really: \(\displaystyle \L\;\frac{(1\,-\,2)^3\,+\,(-3)^2}{\left(\frac{2\,+\,10}{2}\right)\,-\,5}\)

\(\displaystyle \;\;\)then we have: \(\displaystyle \L\,\frac{-1\,+\,9}{6\,-\,5} \;= \;\frac{8}{1} \:=\:8\)
