I need to simplify the following problems:

5+(sqrt)50/10

and

(cubedrt)24x^3y^8 + (cubedrt)81x^6y^2

The first one you've already posted elsewhere.

For the second one, I can't tell what you mean. I will guess that "(cubedrt)" means "the cube root of", but your non-standard use of parentheses makes it impossible to tell what all is inside the root. (Using the formatting explained in "Karl's Notes", in the link in the "Forum Help" pull-down menu at the very top of the page, would be very helpful.)

Do you mean any of the following?

. . . . .cbrt[24]x3y8 + cbrt[81]x6y2

. . . . .cbrt[24x3]y8 + cbrt[81x6]y2

. . . . .cbrt[24x3y8] + cbrt[81x6y2]

. . . . .cbrt[24x3y8 + cbrt[81x6y2]]

Or do you mean something else? How far have you gotten in the simplification process?

Please show all of your steps. Thank you.

Eliz.
