8) Simplify: (2x4y)/(4xy3)

A) (x3)/(2y2)
B) 2x3y2
C) (x5)/(2y4)
D) (2x3)/(y2)
E) None of these

I don't know how to do this one at all. Can you show me how? Thanks!

if I have (2x4 y)/(4x y3) does this = (2x4/4x) (y/y3) ? do you know how to simplfy those 2 pieces?

jwk811, you need to at least use "^" (above the "6" on the keyboard) for exponentiation.

Also, for greater clarity and readability, I would put more grouping symbols into
the problem and the choices like this even though certain pairs of grouping
symbols in certain places are not a must
:

Rewrite:

Simplify: [(2x^4)y]/(4xy^3)

A) (x^3)/(2y^2)

B) 2(x^3)(y^2)

C) (x^5)/(2y^4)

D) (2x^3)/(y^2)

E) None of these

Another rewrite:

Simplify: \(\displaystyle \ \ \dfrac{2x^4y}{4xy^3}\)

A) \(\displaystyle \ \dfrac{x^3}{2y^2}\)

B) \(\displaystyle \ 2x^3y^2\)

C) \(\displaystyle \ \dfrac{x^5}{2y^4}\)

D) \(\displaystyle \ \dfrac{2x^3}{y^2}\)

E) None of these

Here is a hint. You need to be able to reduce the fraction from this form:

\(\displaystyle \ \ \dfrac{2x^4y}{4xy^3} \ = \ \bigg(\dfrac{2}{4}\bigg)\bigg(\dfrac{x^4}{x}\bigg)\bigg(\dfrac{y}{y^3}\bigg) \ = \ \)?
