I am not even sure this is the write forum to post this question.

Here is the original problem/equation:

Step 1: Y = 2000 +0.7(Y+200-0.3Y)+400+0.2Y-30R+1500+1000-0.1Y ....... edited

According to the solution in the book the above equation can be reduced to:

Step 2: Y=5,040+0.59Y-30R

which can then be reduced to:

Step 3: Y=12,292.7 - 73.2R

I don't get how they get to the numeric term 5,040 in Step 2 above?

Also, I don't follow how they got from Step 2 to 3....how did they get "12,292.7"? and "- 73.2R" in the final Step 3 above?

Thanks

Please make sure that you have posted the correct equation. Go over term-by-term and confirm.

What do you get when you simplify the given equation?

Please share your work.

Yes, my mistake. 0.2Y is correct.
Okay. Now that we have the correct initial equation, we'll need to see your steps, as far as you were able to get, and specifying where things stopped making sense.

Please be complete. Thank you! ;)

Y = 2000 +0.7(Y+200-0.3Y)+400+0.2Y-30R+1500+1000-0.1Y

The first thing I would do is write that (Y+ 200- 0.3Y) as (0.7Y+ 200) and then 0.7(Y+ 200- 0.3Y) as 0.49Y+ 140. Now there are three terms on the right that have a "Y", 0.49Y+ 0.2Y- 0.1Y. What is that equal to? The other numbers are 2000+ 140+ 400+ 1500+ 1000. What is that? And one "-30R".
