It's been 50 yrs. and I forgot,, WHAT are (similar figures) when working with squares and rectangles, and how do you solve for them?? Lets use a rectangle that is X long by 6 wide, and another that is 8 long by 4 wide..

Squares are "always" similar - unconditionally.

for rectangles,

The ratio of the sides are equal.

You can have two answers - depending on whether 'x' is the bigger side or the shorter side.

x/8 = 6/4 then x = 12

or

x/4 = 6/8 then x = 3
