The question is:

Find the distance between the circles 9x^2 + 9y^2 = 25 and (x + 5)^2 + (y - 12)^2 = 4 at the points where they are closest.

I got an answer of 9.33 but I'm not sure if I'm correct

thanks

How did you get that value? Why do you think it may be incorrect?

Thank you.

Eliz.

is it correct or not? i tried to solve it by drawing a line connecting the two radius(es) and set that line as the hypotenuse of a right triangle. The other two sides of the triangle 12 and 5 based on the radius of (x+5)^2 + (y-12)^2 =4

It sounds like you have the right idea. Do you have a problem with fractions? What's wrong with \(\displaystyle \frac{28}{3}\)?
