I am having a hard time with this problem. I know the answer, but I need to setup an equation using ONE variable and I am at a loss. Here is the problem.

It is 228 miles from your house to your aunts house and you are on the way to your aunts house. You stop off during the trip. You wonder how far you have traveled so far. You notice that you are twice as far from home as you are from your aunts house. How far have you traveled.

Rule #1 - Name stuff.

Name what?

What does it want?

"How far have you traveled"

Name that !

x = How far you have travelled.

" You notice that you are twice as far from home as you are from your aunts house"

x + (x/2) = 228

Thank you. I knew that X=time traveled and that it also equalled 152 with 76 miles left, but we have never used division in these story problems yet and my teacher snuck it in...thanks again!
