Use U = universal set = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9}, A = {1, 3, 4, 5, 9}, B = {2, 4, 6, 7, 8}, and C = {1, 3, 4, 6} to find each set.

Solution:

The symbol U means the union of two sets.

A U C = set A united with set C

A U C = {1, 3, 4, 5, 9} U {1, 3, 4, 6}

A U C = {1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9}

Is this ok?

12. A n C

Solution:

The symbol n means the intersection of two sets.

A u C = set A intersected with set C

A n C = {1, 3, 4, 5, 9} n {1, 3, 4, 6}

A u C = {1, 3, 4}
