So, I posted a problem EXACTLY as it was written on a sample test.

I was inboxed to say that I should have written it differently.

WHY?? That is what was given. That was part of the problem!

I could not figure out how to solve the problem and of course, came up with incorrect solutions.

I received two RUDE responses stating "I need classroom help" and my problem and attempt at solution "Is very sad."

"If you think you can rip off those x^2" then I need classroom help."

NEITHER fully could resolve the solution themselves and completely insulted me, the FIRST time on this forum!

Once I figured it out....I realized they themselves could not, nor did not explain simplifying the problem by factoring and the foil method.

WOW!!

GOD FORBID I don't know something about Math and ask for HELP on a MATH HELP forum!!! 0.0!!!!

No wonder people STILL have a hard time learning and hate MATH!!!

I thought this was a kind place for people needing a little help!!!

It is people like this who make others feel stupid!

Snotty, arrogant people. If you can't answer something fully, then don't! Also, no one should make anyone else feel dumb!

You certainly did not do so. You posted:

Problem:

If x>2, then x2 - x - 6/x2- 4

The answer is supposed to be

x-3/x+2

x2 should cancel out x2 leaving -x-6/-4

I don't know how to solve it from here. I've tried 3 different ways and am not coming up with the right answer.

Your test problem probably looked like:

\(\displaystyle \displaystyle{\frac{x^2-x-6}{x^2-4}}\)

You should have learned (in PRE-ALGEBRA) order of operation rule (PEMDAS) and the problem above can be written in ASCII format as:

If x>2, then (x^2 - x - 6)/(x^2- 4) ...... required corrections are indicated in RED

I was inboxed to say that I should have written it differently.

WHY?? That is what was given. That was part of the problem!.. If that is so then you have only 6 is being divided by x2 .... and your inspiration of cancelling out x2 comes from where???

Once I figured it out....I realized they themselves could not, ..... they could not because you could not post the correct problem and they were only guessing (correctly!!) at the original form of the problem.

nor did not explain simplifying the problem by factoring and the foil method.

I thought this was a kind place for people needing a little help!!! ..... It is still a kind place when people can express properly their need (like posting the correct problem)
