Which lessons or articles from online (such as in this listing) did you review in your attempts to learn the terminology? Where are you having trouble with the definition they gave you online, in class, or in your book?I'm lost in what they mean by unit rate.
Hi
I need help explaining the answer. If I'm reading the chart right..it takes 0 minutes to 0 gallons of water to get pumped; 1 minute for 5 gallons and 6 minutes for 30 gallons. I'm lost in what they mean by unit rate.
Thanks for helping.
Rate in this context means how fast is the water flow, that is how many gallons per minute. You should know that a straight line such as shown means a constant rate. Since the line passes through the origin [by examining the graph or as given 0 minutes for gallons] so since it takes 1 minute for 5 gallons, the rate must be 5 gallons per minute. The 6 minutes for 30 gallons provides a check on this since if we get 5 gallons in 1 one and the rate is constant, we would get 30 gallons in 6 minutes [5*6 = 30].Hi
