Two ships leave the same point.
ship A leaves at 10:00 am going NORTH at a rate of 12 mph
ship B leaves at 10:30 am going WEST at a rate of 16 mph
S is the separation distance (hypotenuse)
Let the distance ship A goes be A, and the distance ship B goes be B
find the TIME when the rate of separation between the ships is 18.8 mph
ie. when dS/dt equals 18.86 mph
t is time
A= 12t
B=16(t-.5)

You have a right triangle. Think Pythagorean Theorem and run with that.
