rectangle: width 3x, length unknown, area 15x^2 - 24x

Given the area and width of the rectangle below, write an expression that represents the length. A=LW

The width is 3x and the length is unknown. The area is 15x^2-24x.

I thought the way to solve it was 15x^2-24x=3x(y) But it didn't come out as the right answer

I think you are okay. You need to solve for y. Just get the y all by itself on the left side and then simplify the right side and I think you will have the answer in the correct form.

15x[sup:2g8m7x00]2[/sup:2g8m7x00] - 24x = 3x(5x - 8)
