Hi there, I'm stuck on a question about rearranging formulae and I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me.

The question is:
y=x+ay and I need to make y the subject.

I don't know whether or not to subract the y on the left hand side so it will give me 0=x+ay-y and the whole answer would be a negative. Or, Subract the ay from both sides then factorize the y then divide both sides with what I got. I would appreciate any help that you can give me. Thank You.

Those are exactly the steps you need in order to "solve for y." What you divide by is whatever is multiplying y after you factor.

y = x + ay
y - ay = x
. . .
