well i have a problem that i am practicing and having trouble getting the answer. now i have worked it out and to the best of my knowledge, i think ihave the right answer. so here it is with it worked out.
Which of the following satisfies f(x+y)= f(x) + f(y) for all real numbers x and y?
A. f(t) = 3t B. f(t) = 5t^2 C. f(t) = 3t + 4
my work.
A. f(x+y) = 3(x+y)
= 3x + 3y
B. f(x+y) = 5(x+y)^2
= 5(x^2 + 2xy + y^2)
= 5x^2 + 10xy + 5y^2
C. f(x+y) = 3(x+y) + 4
=3x + 3y + 4
With all my choices worked out my first impressions for the correct answer is A. What do you think? The only reason I chose A because it follows the form given in the question.
