Having a problem with explaining Ratios to my son?
Here are his three ratio problems....I dont have the slightest idea what to do here....please help.....even just explain a different example if you dont want to give me the answers, i just want to be able to explain it to him.

One store sells hamburger meat for $1.35 per pound. Another store sells the same type of hamburger meat for $1.62 per pound. Express the ratios of the two prices per pound as a ratio of whole numbers

Hans lifts weights 4 hours a day. Write the ratio of the number of hours spent lifting weights to the number of hours in a day

The ratio of 1 gallon to 16 ounces is 1/1 true or false

A ratio is a comparison of two quantities.

There are at least three different ways to express a ratio.

Using the word "to", like this: 1.35 to 1.62

Using a colon, like this: 1.35 : 1.62

Using a fraction, like this: 1.35/1.62

The fraction is the most common way of expressing ratios.

If we multiply both quantities in a ratio by the same number, the ratio remains unchanged. The two numbers become different, but their ratio is the same.

We can rewrite the ratio 1.35/1.62 using Whole numbers by simply multiplying both quantities by 100.

Since the hamburger exercise does not specify which quantity is being compared to which, we can form two ratios.

1.35 to 1.62

and

1.62 to 1.35

That's why this exercise uses the plural form of the noun "ratio", in the given instructions.

With the weight-lifting exercise, there is only one ratio because the given information explicitly states "hours spent lifting weights TO the number of hours in one day".

Therefore, the requested ratio is NOT 24:4. It's 4:24.

If your son expresses this ratio as a fraction, have him reduce it to lowest terms.

Regarding the last exercise, the only way we can get a ratio of 1 to 1 (or 1:1, or 1/1) is if both quantities are equal.

If 16 ounces is equal to 1 gallon, then their ratio is 1:1; otherwise, it's not.
