if 12 inches = 1 foot
how would I solve this?

What do you mean by "solving" this? Do the instructions tell you to "solve" for the value of some variable, or are you maybe supposed to "simplify" the ratio?

If it's simple division…

3 feet = 36 inches

36/45 = .8 inches, though the value is pretty much useless.

There's 12 inches in a foot, right?
So 3 feet = 3 * 12 = 36 inches, ok?

So your ratio: 3 feet / 45 inches
becomes: 36 inches / 45 inches

So ratio is 36/45 which you can reduce to 4/5 : HOKAY?
