range vs domain

If y is a function of x, then the set of all x is the domain and the set of all y is the range.

Do you have a textbook?

x is 2 away from the end of the alphabet; y is 1 away.

The first answer is correct, but let me add some more info:
Usually we graph y as a function of x. In this situation we call x the 'domain' and y the 'range'. Sometimes you are given a problem to graph and you have to decide the domain and range. The domain is the set of x values for which the problem makes sense and the range is the values the function takes on. For example, if you make $3 an hour you could graph earnings as y = 3x. In this situation x is the number of hours. The domain is any number of hours and the range is the amount you make both positive in this case. When choosing what to make as the range choose what depends on what. You want the y value to depend on the x value. Thats why we say y is dependent and x is independent.
