What is the value of 6 - 3?

If three of x is that value, then what is one of x?

:wink:

Your first step was absolutely correct:

3(x + 1) = 6
3x + 3 = 6

Ok....your next step is to get the term containing "x" by itself. You need to get rid of the "+3" that is on the left side of the equals sign.

Add -3 to both sides of the equation (since +3 + (-3) is 0):

3x + 3 + (-3) = 6 + (-3)

Now, simplify by combining like terms:

3x = 3

Now....can you take it from here?
