how do io solve this equationsquare root x - 1= 3

i don't know how to place the square root sign on the computer

if the problem is \(\displaystyle sqrt(x-1)=3\) then square both sides
\(\displaystyle sqrt(x-1)^2=3^2
x-1=9\)
can you get it from there?
PS to do the square root sign you click on the button teX than type sqrt(x-1) tthen once your done typing the problem you push the teX button again

radicals and stuff help!

For the equation , perform the following:
Solve for all values of x that satisfies the equation

how? :(\(\displaystyle x-sprt(x) =0\)[/tex]

x - sqrt(x) = 0
x = sqrt(x) ; square both sides:
x^2 = x
x^2 - x = 0 ; factor:
x(x - 1) = 0
x = 0 or x = 1 : capish?
