Problem #1:

x^2 = 3 - sq.root(2x^2 - 3)

My attmept to solve it:

[Isoltating the radical]

sq. root(2x^2 - 3) = -x^2 + 3

[Squaring both members]

2x^2 - 3 = x^4 - 6x + 9

[Combining like terms]

x^4 - 8x^2 + 12 = 0

Now.... I can't seem to go any further. I've tried to factor it synthetically, but none of the factors for 12 work.

Please help!!!

Can you factor x^4 - 8x^2 + 12 to:

(x^2 - 6) (x^2 - 2) ??

Then solve for x?

Not sure if that helps or not. Hopefully it does.
