I need help figuring this one out...

A corner shelf is to be made from a triangular piece of plywood. Find the distance, x, that the shelf will extend along the walls. Assume that the walls are at right angles. Round the answer to a tenth of a foot.

Help!!!!!! :?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Tracey....look at your post CAREFULLY.

Are you supposed to find a numerical value of x? If so, we'll need more information.

Thank you.

Eliz.

Oops! I forgot to add that the third side of the triangle is 6ft, and the other 2 sides are "x". Hopefully, this makes more sense.

So plug x, x, and 6 into the Pythagorean Theorem, and solve for x.

Eliz.

Do you understand that x^2 + x^2 = 6^2; 2x^2 = 36 ???????
