Do I use the quotient rule for this one? And what is it cuz I dont see one in my text.
Calculate the derivative of
(sin(x)/cos(x))

\(\displaystyle \Large \frac{\, \sin{x} \, }{ \, \cos{x} \, } = \tan{x}\)

(sin(x)/cos(x))

Again, treat it as two functions:
f(x)/g(x), where f(x)=sinx and g(x)=cosx

Quotient Rule tells us: g(x)*f'(x)-f(x)*g'(x)/(g(x)^2)

Try it and see what you get.

you can also try what Unco said and just take the derivative of tanx
