Question on this: of means muliplication right

Re: Question on this

Hello, deecarney4!

"of" means muliplication, right? . Right!

Example: .5% of 16

This means: \(\displaystyle \,5\%\,\times\,16 \;=\;0.05\,\times \,16\;=\;0.8\)

be careful!!

You wrote: 5% of 16 = 0.8 16X5%= 0.8

When you multiply you need to make you % into decimal form. Watch out with your zeros. So many kids make this mistake.

5% = 0.05
50%=0.50
5=5.0
50=50.0

If you get into the habit of making ALL decimals show two digits (after the decmial) you will get used to this quite quickly.

What grade are you in? Just asking because I teach third grade and lots of you r posts cover information that I teach.
