I need help with this problem. The average of five things is nine. The average of 7 things is 8. What is the average of all 12?

Do you understand how averages are calculated?

If you have not yet learned this, you will not understand the following.

Knowing that the average of five things is nine tells us that the sum of those five things is 45.

Knowing that the average of seven things is eight tells us that the sum of those seven things is 56.

This is enough information to calculate in the usual way the average of all twelve things.

Does this information help you? If you do not understand something that I wrote, please ask specific questions about it.
