When doing fraction word problems what are the key words in the question to look for, that can help tell you what operation you have to use being Addition, Subtraction, Division, and multiplication? I've been struggling with only the word problems, and I have a test in about 40 minutes on it. Everything else about fractions I'm fine at just not the word problems. If anyone knows some hints on what to look for could ya let me know? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks

The keywords aren't generally specific to fractions. For instance, you'd use multiplication whether the language were "three times as much" or "half as much". :wink:Bloopfury said:

Sometimes "of" is translated into "times - like:
1/2 of 1/3 is 1/6
\(\displaystyle \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{1}{3} \, = \, \frac{1}{6}\)
1/2 of 1/3 is 1/6
\(\displaystyle \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{1}{3} \, = \, \frac{1}{6}\)
