I'm am currently working on word problems for Quadtratic equations in my Algebra 2 book. The instructions are solve each problem. Approximate any answers involving radicals to the nearest hundredth.

1. Two positive real numbers have a sum of 5 and product of 5. Find the two numbers.

2. A walkway of uniform width has area of 72 meter squared and surrounds a swimming pool that is eight meter wide and 10 meters long. Find the width of the walkway.

Step by step instructions would be very helpful. Thank you.

1) Consider the numbers to be a,b
a+b=5,a*b=5
=> a=5/b
Substitute this in a+b=5 and solve the equation
2)Imagine this with 2 rectangles with width assumed to be x. Imagine how length and width of the strip around the pool be altered in term of x. And you will get a quadratic equation which can be solved. If you still have problem solving it further please explain the steps you have done from which I can try to help you
